The Acton-Boxborough girls’ high school swim and dive team added another win to the start of their season against the very strong team of Andover. AB edged Andover by 11 points, winning 96 to 85.
Starting off the meet strong with diving, AB took third and fifth with first-year diver Zoey Jin and Senior Shruthika Muthukumar Veena. Following them Aarushi Khatri, Manfrim, Kimaya Gazula, and Darcy Lillie also did very well in their second meet of the season.
The swimmers then began with the 200 medley relay, easily winning the event with Senior Captain Chelsea Zhou leading off with backstroke, followed by Junior Isabela Teixeira, Senior Captain Olivia Sater, and finishing off with Junior Caroline Tyrrell. These girls got yet another state cut with a time of 1:56.99, they were followed by Sophia Ostapenko, Katie Crowley, Julia Xiao, and Caterina Nicu, who got third place, Aarya Chauhan, Saanvi Rai, Aveena Haswani, and Bhumi Mishra finished the first heat off strongly. Later, the 200-yard freestyle relay took another first-place win with Baxter, Crowley, Sater, and Kozhemiakina.
The first individual event was the 200-yard freestyle which Katie Baxter, Mariel Tan, and Emily Zhou swam getting second, third, and fourth place, respectively. In this event, Baxter got yet another state cut. The 200 free was followed by the 200 individual medley, swam by Teixeira, Crowley, and Kira Kozhemiakina, got even more points for AB by placing first, third, and fourth. Teixeira and Crowley both got a state cut in this event. AB achieved many more states and sectional cuts in the next events with Tyrrell and Sater in the 50 freestyle, Teixeira in the 100 butterfly, Sater in the 100 free, Kozhemiakina and Tan in the 500 free, Zhou and Baxter in the 100 back, and Tyrrell and Crowley in the 100 breaststroke. A highlight of these events includes the 100 backstroke being swept by Zhou, Baxter, and Ostapenko, placing first, second, and third. AB finished off the meet strong with the 400 free relay with Kozhemiakina, Baxter, Tyrrell, and Teixeira.
